NAPLES, Fla. - This past May, Michael Finkel, MD, neurologist with Physicians Regional Medical Group and President of the World Neurology Foundation, traveled to Ethiopia to provide 28 sets of donated medical assessment Tool Kits to Ethiopian neurologists.
Partly supported by a generous grant from the Naples Council on World Affairs, local neurological groups and national donations, the medical assessment Tool Kits are supplied to African neurologists on an ongoing basis as aid to improve neurological care worldwide.
"It is extremely gratifying to be able to help my colleagues in neurology obtain these necessary tools for examinations," said Dr. Finkel. "With only one neurologist per two million people in Africa, it is essential that the patients have the opportunity for a proper clinical examination."
To date, the World Neurology Foundation has sent 128 Tool Kits to Africa, with the largest source of contribution to this project coming from colleagues at Neuroscience and Spine Associates (NASA), Collier Neurologic Specialists and humanitarian oriented individuals in Naples.
The neurological community of Florida and the Naples Council on World Affairs have been most generous in supporting this project, Dr. Finkel added.
In addition to the Tool Kit donations, Dr. Finkel presented the Inaugural Dean's Lecture at the Black Lion Hospital of Addis Ababa University during his stay.

Background on Michael Finkel, MD
For thirty-six years, Dr. Finkel has been very involved in state, local, national and international neurological organizations and has, in the past, been recognized internationally for his work as President of the World Neurology Foundation, a US not-for-profit Foundation that works with the World Federation of Neurology to improve neurological care worldwide.
